Reporting Student Absences

How to report an absence:

  • Notification must come from a parent email, or written by a parent.

  • Notification is for an all-day absence (not for arriving late, or requesting to release a student early).

  • Student first and last name must be on the note or email.

  • Student grade must be provided.

  • Student 5 digit ID # must be provided.

  • Reason for the absence must be on the notification.

  • Parent phone number should be on the notification in case of questions.

Please email the attendance office with notifications or questions

Student with last name beginning with A – I email irenashakhmuradyan@burbankusd.org

Students with last name beginning with J – R email Jennifervardanian@burbankusd.org

Students with the last name beginning with S – Z email lindabitto@burbankusd.org

The attendance office opens at 7 a.m. in order for students to turn in an absence verification, or for off-schedules. After 8:30 a.m., students must come into the attendance office during nutrition, in-between class, or lunch to turn in an absence verification or to receive an off-schedules(leaving early pass).

A student who misses a portion or all of a period in the day puts the student at a disadvantage in accessing information, knowledge, learning skills, and information application. Therefore, each student is required to attend all meetings of every class for which he or she is enrolled.

Absences

Absences must be excused within 72 hours of returning to school (Per CA ED code rules).  Absences may be excused either via email from parent or note to the Attendance staff.

Late to school

If a student is coming in late, the parent must provide a note upon the students arrival to school stating the reason for coming in late, the student must time stamp the note in the Attendance Office PRIOR to going to class.

Unexcused absences and tardies place the student in jeopardy of losing one or more classes and receiving a grade of "F," as delineated in the school attendance policy. Students are responsible for making up all work missed within a reasonable time period outlined by the teacher.
