Sculpture
Sculpt your ideas! In the BHS Sculpture courses, students create dimensional artwork, and utilize a variety of materials and methods to create original, meaningful and relevant art. Students can enroll in up to three years of sequential classes to build their skills, concepts and portfolios:
Sculpture 1 - An overview of 3d design, sculpting & finishing techniques.
Sculpture 2 - Advanced work, with longer and specialized projects.
AP Studio Art with 3d Focus
Creative experiences within BHS Sculpture classes include:
- Development of visual research, original concepts and thoughtful designs
- Sculpting techniques for large and small artworks
- Work with ceramic hand building, assemblage, plaster carving, polymer clay, repurposed materials, metal, casting methods, digital sculpting
- Traditional human and creature forms, as well as contemporary styles
- Experiences with material and tool use for good construction and gallery ready presentation
- Student interest-driven projects to develop personal style and artistic voice
- Year end portfolios, with in-progress images and artist statements
- Opportunities to submit to art shows and competitions
- Community service through group created art, such as an installation or campus beautification
Sculpture classes are taught with a foundation of three-dimensional design that carries over to other classes and pathways. Sculpture skills support careers in architecture, engineering, industrial design, environmental design, animation and VFX, prototype and toy making, and more. Understanding how to model in actual space, and practice of anatomy, helps students interested in digital 3D techniques.
